Taylor Haefs
Resident in Wildlife Population Health
Dr. Taylor Haefs is the inaugural Cornell K. Lisa Yang Center for Wildlife Health Resident in Wildlife Population Health. A veterinarian and public health professional, she is dedicated to advancing the health, welfare, and conservation of free-ranging wildlife through a One Health lens.
Dr. Haefs' background includes work in wildlife rehabilitation hospitals, externships with state fish and wildlife departments, and a specialized wildlife medicine internship with Partners for Wildlife, a program at the University of Minnesota dedicated to improving animal welfare in wildlife rehabilitation. Through these experiences, she has developed a deep understanding of how the health of individual animals connects to the well-being of entire populations and ecosystems. Her dual training in veterinary medicine and public health has strengthened her commitment to collaborative, interdisciplinary approaches to emerging infectious diseases and conservation challenges.
Dr. Haefs is passionate about promoting public awareness of and participation in wildlife conservation efforts, including disease reporting. Dedicated to mentoring and supporting students, she strives to inspire the next generation of wildlife veterinarians. Her ultimate goal is to build a career centered on wildlife population health, contributing to sustainable coexistence between people, animals, and the natural world.
